The Clarksville High School Football Generals will take the field next season with a new Head Coach. Joby Turner was approved by the Clarksville Community Board of School Trustees during the regular meeting on Tuesday, March 8.
A committee of administrators, board members and parents interviewed the candidates for the coaching position before recommending Turner as the newest coach of the Football Generals.
Turner’s coaching credentials include three years as Varsity Assistant and Defensive Coordinator at Eastern Greene High School in Bloomfield, IN, a season as a defensive consultant at Park Tudor High School, the Varsity Assistant and Special Teams Coordinator at Crawfordsville High School for two seasons and most recently a season at Eastern Pekin as a Varsity Assistant/Defensive Coordinator,
“It is an honor to be the new head football coach of a program with such a rich tradition,” Turner said. “I look forward to working with the players to restore this tradition and create a game day atmosphere unlike any other.”
“Most importantly, I aspire to mold young boys into the type of men this community can be proud of for years to come. I cannot wait to see you all on Friday Nights supporting all of the hard work these young men will be doing in the coming weeks.”
Turner has a bachelor’s degree from Wabash College and currently teaches fifth and sixth grade at Clarksville Middle School.
Khelli Leitch, Athletic Director, said the hiring committee was looking for a head coach who could build relationships with his players both on the field and in the classroom.
“In searching for our new football coach, the hiring committee placed a lot importance on finding a candidate that could be here full time and someone that valued a family culture centered around accountability and discipline,” Leitch said.
“Joby Turner checked those boxes for us. He is extremely passionate about building a successful football program and building it the right way. We strive to have a successful athletic program that is educationally based and prepares our student-athletes for the future. Mr. Turner shares that vision and we are happy to have him as a member of the Clarksville Family.”
