The Clarksville Redevelopment Commission (RDC) passed a resolution at their Regular Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 8 to allocate $400,000 each year for three years, generated by tax increment finance districts to Clarksville Community Schools and Greater Clark County Schools.
Clarksville Community Schools and Greater Clark Schools agreed to split the dollars based on the percent of assessed valuation captured by the RDC. Approximately 60% of the proceeds received from the TIF district is generated by the Clarksville School Corporation.
Clarksville Community Schools will receive $240,000 annually for three years, which will be used to help fund STEM programs, such as the 1:1 computing initiative, putting computers in the hands of all students.
“Only a handful of redevelopment commissions throughout our state have entered into these types of partnerships. The RDC has just made a huge economic commitment for our students. For that, we are extremely grateful and excited!” shared Kim Knott, Superintendent of Clarksville Community Schools.
“This is progressive, this is really cutting edge, what you guys are doing with these dollars, helping the school system and investing in our schools and community.” Bill Wilson, Clarksville Community Schools Board President, said at the meeting Thursday night.
Clarksville Community Schools commends the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission’s visionary decision.
