Welcome Back Walk 2018
About 50 teachers and staff members walked the neighborhoods in Clarksville on Aug. 1 to welcome students back to school.
The second annual Welcome Back Walk was started last year as a way to help ease the fears of those students who are starting in a new school building. Teachers and staff walked to the houses of incoming kindergarten, fifth and ninth grades to say hello, take a photo, and give each student a drawstring backpack filled with goodies for the new school year.
“We know that starting in a new school building can cause some anxiety,” said Tara Schmelz, communications specialist and event organizer. “We hope that by visiting with those students that we help ease any jitters and help students feel confident for their first day of school.”
Sponsors for the Welcome Back Walk include REALTOR Mark Ridings, CCSC Alumni Association, Kroger, Sams Club, Target and Krispy Kreme.
